Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery is special because it uniquely blends deep history, family heritage and a profound connection to its land in Ontario’s Niagara Peninsula. The Speck family’s story on this land stretches back six generations to the late 1700s, and today the winery still grows and makes premium wines on the original family farm in the Short Hills Bench sub-appellation, a site with ideal slopes, soils and climate for expressive grapes. They were pioneers in planting European vinifera in Niagara in the 1980s and helped found the Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA), making wines exclusively from their own estate fruit. Henry of Pelham has also been at the forefront of sustainable viticulture, being one of the first vineyards in Ontario certified for environmental stewardship and sustainable winemaking practices from vine to table. The combination of rich tradition, attention to terroir, award-winning wines and a long-term commitment to the land makes Henry of Pelham a standout estate in Canadian wine.
