Description
Merlot is a black-grape variety originating from the Bordeaux area in France, owing its name to the particular predilection of the blackbird for its berries. It spread to Italy in the 19th century, mainly in the Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions. Merlot prefers fresh soils with good humidity and Italo Cescons alluvial vineyards along the banks of the Piave River are the ideal ripening environment. Their Merlot is a world away from the mass produced, commercial wines you often find in the supermarkets, this is dry, complex and ultra refined with soft cherry and blackcurrant fruit before deeper notes of tobacco and oaky spice begin to show. The finish is long and structured with liquorice and dark chocolate flavours. A stunning example of Merlot and a must try for any genuine connoisseurs.
