Today we take a trip in to York and visit one of our oldest restaurant customers and one Yorkshires finest Indian & Bangladeshi restaurants, the multi award winning Mumbai Lounge. Founded in 2010 by Rakib Ali this stunning three level, 250 cover restaurant is Located on Fossgate in the heart of the historic city. Far beyond your typical Indian restaurant, Mumbai Lounge has gone on to establish itself as one York’s very best with 5-star reviews coming in thick and fast.
Whilst you can of course find the classic curry dishes we all know and love, at Mumbai Lounge you’re presented with so much more. The menu is extensive, with mesmerising Bengali, Tandoori and Shashlik options as well as a whole host of regional specialities, how these talented chefs manage to produce so many complex dishes whilst maintaining such a high level of quality is just mind bending!
What we order: The Combi Chaat to start, then a king prawn Achari for main, this is a regional speciality from Hyderabad. Cooked in a tantalising mix pickle masala and laced with green chillies before being sprinkled with spring onions and coriander. And on the side a portion of Mumbai Aloo and a gorgeous stuffed Paratha. Our wine recommendation would be a bottle of the Masia Bou Cava, this gold medal winning fizz from just outside Barcelona makes a wonderful pairing with the rich, intense, and aromatic flavours of the curry.
A visit to York isn’t complete without a visit to Mumbai lounge, this is Indian cuisine at its absolute very best. The Restaurant is open 7 days a week and also opens for lunch everyday apart from Fridays. Advance booking is highly recommended.
