Don’t let the name put you off! This is a very interesting and characterful wine.
An interesting, characterful red from 100% Lagrein grape – a combination of vibrant bitter cherry and plum fruit with darker, spicier notes. A great food wine. Indigenous to Trentino and thought to be related to Syrah. A warm spicy nose with smoky aromas which mingle with red berries and a hint of chocolate. The palate is rich and robust, dry and finely structured with smooth tannins and a very typically Italian bitter cherry twist, leading to bramble fruit on the finish.
Produced from fruit grown in the Valle del Sarca, which benefit from the warm wind coming from Lake Garda. Lagrein prefers warm, sheltered areas and produces wine of noteworthy concentration and complexity. After long maceration the wine is then moved to barriques for 12-14 months and subsequently matured in large oak casks for a further 6 months.
Food recommendations: This multi award winning wine is excellent with grilled red meat, stews or pasta with a concentrated meat or tomato sauce.
