Chile is famously known as the ‘viticultural paradise’ of the world. With it’s near perfect geographical and climatic conditions it’s not hard to see why. There is a large amount of foreign investment in the Chilean wineries and vineyard. This has seen their export sales grow dramatically due to the improved quality of their wines.
Some say they have the best vineyards in the world!

The four Cardinal points which help to achieve Chile’s ‘near perfect geographical and climatic conditions are;

  1. Atacama Desert
  2. Southern Patagonian Ice Field
  3. Andes Mountains
  4. Pacific Ocean

The Patagonian Ice Field and the Andes Mountains add moisture to the soil whilst the Atacama desert adds wind to the soil. The Pacific Ocean warms the terroir throughout the day and cools it during the night. These points help to cultivate and fertilise the soil which in return creates a high quality yield for the winemakers to harvest.
The climate in Chile is primarily Mediterranean meaning the majority of the rainfall occurs during the winter months. The small percentage of rainfall in the growing season allows the winemakers to harvest rain free making the Chilean climate even more culminating.
